Night Duty Allowance

  • Night Duty allowance is not granted to all the employees of indian railway , it is only provided to certain specified category of Non-Gazetted railway employee.
  • It is granted to certain specified category like Running Staff, Group C &D workshop staff, Group C& D employees classified Intensive, Continuous and Essentially Intermittent.
  • All the staff specified above, if they perform their duty between 22:00 hrs to 06:00 hrs than only they will be paid night duty allowance.
  • Night duty rates are modified each time when Basic and DA is modified.
  • How night duty allowance is calculated-
       First night duty rate of one unit is calculated by formula-
                        Night duty rate for one unit=(Basic+DA)/200
                       e.g- Basic=40,000
                                  Da=10,000
                       Night duty rate for one unit=(40,000+10,000)/200=250 Rs

                       *One unit in Indian Railway is of 6 Hrs

                      Now, in a month if a employee has performed 120 Hrs of  Night Duty then

                       No of units=120/6=20 Units

                       Total Night Duty Allowance=20*250=5000 Rs
